Unit 11 2.1

 For this piece of coursework I needed to discuss professional CVs, show reels, interview skills, communication skills, advancing practical skills, organisational skills and self branding. Within these topic titles I had to explain and evaluate:

  • When is it needed?
  • What does it show case?
  • Why is it important?
  • What is included on it?
  • Advantages
  • Disadvantages
Professional CVs

I began researching professional CVs by carrying out a simple google images search. It allowed me to see the layout of professional CVs and what is included.

From this search I decided to include (Not in this particular order):
  • My name
  • Address and other personal contact detaila
  • Professional contact details and social media
  • About me section
  • My education history
  • My hobbies and interests
  • Media experience
  • General  and media related skills 
  • Software knowledge
  • Qualification
  • References
  • Current employment and my duties 
For most of the questions I answered about each title, I had previous knowledge on them and when I did attempt to search for some answers, I was unable to find a sufficient answer from my research, therefore I used my knowledge to answer most questions.

Self Branding

In terms of self branding then searched for examples of business cards, logos, websites and professional social media accounts. 

Show Reels

When researching about show reels I first looked a number of different show reels, both within my lesson and in my free time so I was able to see for myself what is needed for a successful and effective show reel.
The links showed me what to consider when creating a showing, and examples of good show reels. I found that the website Vimeo is a very good website to use when you are wanting to find some high quality pieces, they also allow to you to post your own work and give you a chance to show what you do and what you are able to create.

Interview Skills

For interview skills, I took what I already knew and then researched further to gain a greater knowledge on interview skills.
These links assisted me to write about interview skills as they clearly and effectively explain what employers are doing in preparation and what they may ask you, the interview skills needed to do well in an interview and what personality traits you will need to let shine in an interview.

Communication Skills

When I began to write about communication skills I first researched all the different types of communication skills and went on from there.
This is the only main link I used to complete writing about my next title. Within each section it explains exactly why you need that certain communication skill.

Advancing Practical Skills

The next skills I was to write about was advancing practical skills and as I already developed a number of these skills during my past year of college I could write about why they are needed and how they can help. I couldn't particularly find any links that would help me write about advancing practical skills so I used the knowledge I already had on the skills and wrote about them.

Organisational Skills

I have experienced organisational skills first hand so as well as using the knowledge I had beforehand, I used the link below to assist me in answering the bullet point questions at the top of this blog post.
This link explained internal and external organisational skills and then broke down why they are needed and how they can effect a production.

RN Media Studies Weekly Update (Level 3, Year 2)

Week 1 The first week has mainly revolved around induction and becoming familiar with my new environment. On the Tuesday, the media & technology and photography classes went to the show room cinema in Sheffield to watch 'Patti Cakes'. The film itself wasn't beneficial to me personally but the introduction made by an employee opened up a few opportunities to me. She stated that the show room allows younger people to view films for a lower price, that they have discussion groups about fils and that they allow people, especially students, to show case their work. I can use this to my advantage when I feel comfortable to show other people what I have produced. I could also show case my unfinished pieces so I can get a wide range of opinions on how I can change it for the better. Therefore having a better chance at a higher grade.
